Lilli Maijala is a lecturer in viola music at the Sibelius Academy in Central Europe. He can also be seen as a visiting principal viola of orchestras in e.g. Bern, Amsterdam or Helsinki.
Maijala's childhood was full of chamber music; she spent her time in music classes, conservatory and the Oulu Symphony, and afterwards in the youth education of the Sibelius Academy. This was followed by significant years in Germany and the Scandinavian Peninsula. She has participated in e.g. the ARD competition and the Nordic viola competition, and placed at the top of the competitions.
The most important teachers have been Teemu Kupiainen, Diemut Poppen and Lars Anders Tomter. From her base in Amsterdam, Maijala not only teaches, but also performs in festivals such as the Peasmarsh Chamber Music Festival, Oslo Chamber Music Festival, IMC Prussia Cove, Festival Resonances, West Cork Chamber Music Festival and Musikdorf Ernen.
Recent soloist projects have included recording of P. H. Nordgren's concerto with bassist Olivier Thiery, the Central Ostrobothnia Chamber Orchestra and Juha Kangas. Other soloist partners have been e.g. Tapiola Sinfonietta, Helsinki City Orchestra, Pori Sinfonietta, Oulu Sinfonia, Lapland Chamber Orchestra, Folkwang Chamber Orchestra Essen, Sinfonia Lahti and Camerata Salzburg.
