Tanja Nisonen won her first audition when she was the first year student in Sibelius Academy. Since then she has won many auditions. Nowadays she is a member of Turku Philharmonic Orchestra.
Nisonen has created an international career by working e.g. as the principal French horn of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and has also visited other foreign orchestras. The stay in Spain duting 2019-20 season spawned invitations to orchestras in Granada, Tenerife and Gran Canaria. An indication of the international interest in an invitation to the International Horn Society seminar in Ghent, Belgium, where she was one of five invited female horn artists.
Nisonen has also been invited to perform and give lectures at the Nordic Horn Seminar in the Faroe Islands in 2020. Nisonen is a very active chamber musician and has founded the ArtSoppa Chamber Music Association. In addition to domestic festivals, she has performed as a chamber musician in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Germany, Spain and Norway. Nisonen was invited to record Johannes Brahms' horn trio in London for the ICSM record company.
Nisonen is currently preparing a recording project in which she will focus on works for horn written by female composers. (Alba Records). She is also planning postgraduate studies to dig deeper into the subject. Since 2010, Nisonen has worked as a curator of horn playing at the Turku Conservatory and the Academy of Fine Arts (BA). She has given master classes at the Conservatories of Granada and Malaga, as well as at various horn events both at home and abroad.
